Storyline:
Twins travel to the Middle East to discover their family history and fulfill their mother’s last wish.

Opinion:
Marked by periods of eerie calm, followed by sudden, astonishing bursts of emotion, even when things get a little melodramatic. Incendies is intelligent, impressive acting, and emotionally harrowing.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Direction:
Andrew Dominik

Storyline:
Robert Ford, who has idolized Jesse James since childhood, strives to join the Missouri gangster’s reform-minded gang, but gradually develops a dislike for the bandit leader.

Opinion:
Writer-director Andrew Dominik takes his time with the story, but his leisurely pace allows tension to build – and allows the actors to add nuance and depth to characters who seem familiar only at first glance. The vamose soundtrack and Roger Deakins’ wonderful cinematography round it all out to a Western that, unfortunately, too few still know, but everyone must have seen at least once.

Mommy

Direction:
Xavier Dolan

Storyline:
A widowed single mother raising her violent son alone finds new hope when a mysterious neighbor sneaks into her household.

Opinion:
A 1:1 aspect ratio in a movie? Yes, and it’s not just an Artzy Fartzy idea that was brought in, it has its value and you’ll know what I mean when you’ve seen the film. And for the acting of the three main characters alone, the film is worth seeing. Original-Voiceacting would also be beneficial, but the German syncro does a good job here as well.

Outer Wilds

Mobius Digital, LLC

Content:
Explore a handcrafted solar system and uncover an ancient mystery.

Opinion:
No other game has given me such an urge to explore. No matter which direction (if any) you choose, you are guaranteed to discover something new. And once you have obtained information, you can use it to rediscover places you already know. Then crowned with a finale that almost resembles “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

The Congress

Direction:
Ari Folman

Storyline:
An aging and unemployed actress takes one last job, but the consequences of her decision affect her in ways she hadn’t considered.

Opinion:
A film that is very much on the meta level and is becoming more and more topical these days in terms of subject matter. I would recommend that you don’t even watch the trailer, but start with the film right away. It is definitely a roller coaster of emotions for me.

Everything

Developer:
David OReilly

Content:
EVERYTHING is a beautiful interactive experience narrated by the great and sadly deceased philosopher Alan Watts.

Opinion:
I have not (currently) experienced any other game where gameplay and narrative are so intertwined.
I would even go so far as to say that this game has changed my worldview somewhat and made my appreciation for life itself grow.
Just watch the trailer, then you can get an idea of what this is all about in detail.
